Staunton, Virginia
Staunton was established in 1732 by Irish immigrant John Lewis. It was later named in honor of Lady Rebecca Staunton, the wife of William Gooch, who served as Virginia's colonial governor in the 1730s.
Nestled in the heart of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains, Staunton has a charming downtown filled with well-preserved historic architecture, a lively arts scene, and a variety of delightful local dining options. The area features numerous independent shops and galleries along the historic Main Street. Staunton is also home to notable attractions such as the American Shakespeare Blackfriars Playhouse, the Frontier Culture Museum, and the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum.
